diy wedding!

worth it to check out this site for all the diy's they did! so etsy!
http://www.mywedding.com/navarros/index.html

Hi everyone,

I would have to say that my favorite part of the wedding was the DIYs. Because it really feels great when you accomplish a project. It also lets you be creative and it was great bonding times for us. My husband was very much active in all the wedding preparations and DIYs. I so miss it already. Wish my sister would get married na. Hahahaha.

We had a lot of DIY projects as we had a very limited budget. Here's a list of them and how much we spent on them (at least those I was able to track). Our friend, our coordinator, however would not let us pay her for the materials of the DIYs she made so I don't know how much they are. She "says" she just got the materials at home anyway.

Hopefully, this might help someone in planning their DIYs.

Pics of our DIYs at our wedsite.

- Invitations - 70pcs - approx. P1000 (my sis did not charge us for using her printer/ink)
- Misalette covers - P82.50 (my sis did not charge us for using her printer/ink)
- Cord (made by our coordinator)
- Arrhae - P18 (we used a small black bowl to put the coins in)
- Garter - husband made one by sewing a garter and silk ribbons. he found instructions on the web. but our coordinator bought one so we used that one instead.
- Hairpiece (made of 3 ribbon roses we sewed-suppossedly for our bouquet photobooth prop. but we liked the pompom bouquet more so we ditched the ribbon bouquet project)
- Bouquets / Boutonierres - approx. P4000 (i knew we wouldn't save much here but i really liked the concept so we still did it anyway. and buying my dream bouquet from etsy.com would have cost me 5K plus shipping anyway. plus we all get to keep our bouquets. mine sits in a glass in our dining table)
= 7 ento bouquets (used felt cloth, wire, buttons, ribbons and wrapping tissue)
= 1 bridal bouquet (same concept with ento bouquet)
= 10 boutonierres (used cardboard, black gift wrappers, silver wrapping tissue, buttons and wire)
- Church decorations
= pompoms (made by coordinator- made with japanese paper and wire)
= candles - 2pcs for ceremony and aisle luminaries - P373 (also includes the floating candles used in the reception)
= candle holders of luminaries (brought by our coordinator)
- Reception decorations
= black origami cranes - 70pcs - P280
= small glasses - 16pcs - P288
= glass vases - 7pcs - approx. P1050
= black branches - 3bunches - P450
= black table runner - 7pcs - P300 for the cloth and P700 for the sewing
= pebbles for vases - half sack - P175
= bride/groom placemats - 2 pcs - approx P100 (scrapbooking paper)
= placecards / escort cards
= registration table decorations (made by our coordinator)
= "D" and "J" styro letters (made by our coordinator- made with styro, black paint and flower paper cutouts)
= pompoms (made by our coordinator- made with japanese paper and wire)
= table numbers (made by our coordinator- made with felt paper)
- Photobooth Props
= tarp background (P20 per sq. ft.)
= tiara (made using a "payneta", beads and clear string)
= 2 masquerade masks (made with black cartolina, special cardboard paper, silver wrapping tissue, fake feathers, ribbons and balloon stick)
= thin feather boa (bought as is)
= 3 mustaches (made by our coordinator- made with felt paper and clear drink stirers)
= white board - P100 (just added a black border of wrapping paper)
= giant bow tie (made with felt cloth and ribbons)
= paper bouquet (made by our coordinator- made with japanese paper, wire and wrapping tissue)
= 2 party hats (made with cartolina, crepe paper, ribbon and flower paper cutouts)
= paper lei (made with 2 crepe papers and thread)

I think the great thing about DIY, esp the decorations, is that you get to use them for your special day and still get your money's worth even after the event. I gave away the glass vases/pebbles/ black branches to my family and some of our friends. Everytime we visit my family, seeing the vases reminds me of our wonderful wedding. s

It's also really heartwarming to see other people's appreciation of your hard work. Like when we saw people keeping the black origami cranes and placecards we made as extra souvenirs. Or how they praised the decorations, invitations, bouquets and souvenir design. It really makes the experience exponentially even more special.

Thinking back, I wish we had more than 6 months to plan the wedding. It would have given us the time to have made even more DIYs, I had so many other ideas. Our schedule was so hectic that I had to do DIYs at work during lunch breaks. Plus, we were still making DIYs and last minute preparations until 2am of our wedding day - talk about crazy. When I was walking down the aisle, all I could think about is how tired and sleepy I was and hoping that my smile still looked good. Haha. Good thing that in the middle of the ceremoy, I forgot all about being tired and sleepy and started being excited.

Hopefully, someone might find this helpful or even encourage someone to do DIYs as well.
